Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu has said that the correction of the Enosis mistake by the Greek Cypriot side is not enough for the Turkish Cypriot side to return to the negotiation table, adding that President Akıncı should also demand an apology from the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades.

Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu was evaluating the Cyprus negotiation process and responding to questions as part of a television programme.

Ertuğruloğlu explained that the challenge of the current negotiation process is not only the Enosis decision, but that the main problem is the Greek Cypriot side’s “minority-majority statement”.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriot side can only obtain minority rights in the current negotiation process, Ertuğruloğlu said if negotiations continue, it must be at a  “state to state level” from now on.

“What are we going to negotiate with the Greek Cypriots, who consider the Turkish Cypriots as a minority in this current negotiation process?” asked Ertuğruloğlu, adding that the TRNC should be accepted in order to reach a solution in Cyprus.
