Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay and his accompanying delegation consisting of new diplomats and high level bureaucrats from the ministry carried out a study visit to the closed city of Varosha yesterday.
After visiting Varosha the delegation also visited Derinya crossing point where works to allow for the opening of the checkpoint have been ongoing.
Speaking at the visit Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay has stated that the TRNC Government acts by taking into consideration the practical and economic impacts of decisions, such as the opening of crossing points, which will be particularly important for the Gazimağusa and Lefke as well as for the Greek Cypriots who can take advantage of new trading opportunities.
Özersay emphasised the importance of fresh thinking, not only in relation to the opening of crossing points but also in order to solve problems that have become a part of the status quo for many years.
Özersay noted that the TRNC Government has issued a tender for the necessary work, and that the Government will continue to make every effort to facilitate the opening of the Derinya and Aplıç crossing points as soon as possible.
