Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond called President Mustafa Akıncı and gained information about the latest stage reached at the negotiations. During the UN General Council in New York, Hammond could not meet with Akıncı due to the intense program.
During the telephone conversation Akıncı expressed to Hammond the sensitivities of the Turkish Cypriot side. Hammond said that he wants to visit Cyprus and meet with Akıncı in the near future.
Within the framework of the UN General Council meetings in New York, President Akıncı had a series of contacts primarily with the Secretary of State John Kerry, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, EU High Commissioner Federica Mogherini and foreign ministers of various countries.
