Akıncı: “There are agreements, disagreements and different views”
President Mustafa Akıncı stated that they will do whatever is necessary to reach a solution in Cyprus, adding “There are some agreements, disagreements and different views. The important thing is to overcome the differences and reach a result which will be approved by the two sides. This is not an easy process.”
President Akıncı met with the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades after about one month break yesterday. The meeting continued for about 4 hours and following the meeting, President Akıncı made a press statement.
In his statement, Akıncı said that yesterday, firstly, they had a tripartite meeting with the participation of the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide. Akıncı added that they exchanged views and expressed their own views about the issues.
Stressing that later they continued their meeting with the participation of the negotiators, Akıncı said that after the meeting with the negotiators, they had a meeting with the whole delegation and they discussed the latest stage.
Furthermore, Akıncı said “We gave instructions to our negotiators to start to work intensely on the criteria regarding the property issue in the following days. I hope they will hold meetings starting from tomorrow”.
Reminding that the next meeting of the Leaders will be held on 30 October, Akıncı said “During yesterday’s meeting, we decided to continue negotiations intensely starting from November”.
