Ban thanked to Eroğlu for “perfect” co-operation
The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon sent a letter to the third President of the TRNC Derviş Eroğlu and thanked him for “perfect” co-operation within the period of his duty.
In his letter he emphasized that, the joint statement put forward by Eroğlu and the leader of Greek Cypriot Administration Nikos Anastasiadis in February, 2014 was an invaluable background in terms of the continuation of negotiations. Ban stated in his letter: “Mr.Derviş Eroğlu, I appreciate your perfect co-operation within the period of your duty and on the other hand I appreciate your eagerness in order to find a comprehensive settlement on the Cyprus issue and also I appreciate your sincerity at the leaders’ summit meetings in Geneva and Green-tree in 2011 and 2012.
He concluded his letter “even if you couldn’t reach a settlement on the Cyprus issue within the period of your duty, we have always been committed to this critical aim as the UN and we supported both of the communities at the resolution efforts in the Cyprus problem. In this context I believe that you will give support to Cyprus negotiations in the following weeks and months.”
