Presidential Spokesman Baris Burcu pointing to Secretary General’s Espen Barth Eide’s statements after the leaders meeting on Monday said they were not personal statements but the common statements of the leaders.
Burcu also indicated that the assessments made such as President Akıncı remained silent at the meeting were wrong.
Burcu said that announcements to the public with reference to the negotiation process were made according to the agreements between the two sides under the auspices of the UN. “We are trying to remain faithful to that agreement’ he added.
Responding to criticism that the Turkish press fell short of the Greek Cypriot press with reports on the talks, Burcu said that reports in the Greek Cypriot press did not always reflect the truth and this becomes obvious later on. He stressed that Akıncı wants to keep to the exact sensitivities about the openness, clarity and sharing of information with regards to the talks.
