Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said regarding Cyprus negotiations “What was needed for a solution in Cyprus was real political will. If Greek Cypriot side and Greece show strong political will, there is no reason for not solving the Cyprus problem”.

Within the framework of his contacts in Washington, Cavusoglu gave a speech at a conference organized by a think tank “the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace” titled “Turkey’s role in a tempestuous Middle East”. In his speech, Çavuşoğlu stated that there was a window of opportunity to find a political solution to the Cyprus problem which has existed for 50 years therefore 2015 is a very important year at that point.

Furthermore, stressing their strong commitment for a solution in Cyprus, Çavuşoğlu expressed their desire for resumption of negotiations soon and added that Turkish side was ready to spend extra effort to reach a settlement by the end of the year but “tango needs two persons”. Çavuşoğlu added that US’s active support will be important in the following critical process.
