AKEL’s Head of the Cyprus Desk Toumazos Çelebis made statements to Astra radio and criticized the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiadis. Expressing that Turkey waited for the statements of Anastasiadis before issuing a new NAVTEX Çelebis said: “Greek Cypriot government should have made efforts in order to prevent the new NAVTEX. AKEL has made related proposals towards this direction however these have not been accepted.” In addition Çelebis has expressed his worries regarding the stagnancy in the Cyprus negotiations in the recent two years.
On the other hand, Speaker of the Greek Cypriot Assembly and the President of EDEK Yannakis Omiru, reacted towards the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiadis who has made statements regarding the discussion of natural gas at the latest stage of the negotiations. Omiru expressed that in spite of the opposing views at the meeting of political party presidents realized in the previous day, Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiadis explained that the pending issues regarding the natural gas can be discussed at the last stage of the negotiations. Omiru also said that Greek Cypriot National Council and the Council of Greek Cypriot Political Party Presidents have taken a decision such that discussion of natural gas at the negotiations will never be accepted; however with the statement he made, Anastasiadis has violated this principle. Omiru has evaluated the proposal of Anastasiadis as a great concession.
