Following the establishment of the 64th Government in Turkey, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu paid his first official visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. At the press conference held together with President Mustafa Akıncı, Ahmet Davutoğlu stated that they addressed the Cyprus negotiations in a comprehensive manner and they will always be on the side of the TRNC. Prime Minister Davutoğlu emphasized that, as with the Annan Plan period, they will provide all kinds of contributions for a fair, permanent and peaceful solution on the island.
Davutoğlu, “Our common goal is to form a new Republic of Cyprus which is based on bi-zonal, fair and political equality and to display a good example of living together based on two founding states.”
Pointing out that there are very big crises around the Eastern Mediterranean today and the only positive process in the region is the ongoing negotiations in Cyprus, Davutoğlu wished that this process reaches a conclusion with positive results.
Furthermore, stating that they will continue to contribute to the negotiations that are sustained by the UN, Davutoğlu pointed out that Turkey is one of the essential factors of the solution in Cyprus with other guarantor countries. Davutoğlu also mentioned that they will take every step for a positive conclusion.
