Eide: “Progress achieved on certain issues in the negotiations”

President Mustafa Akıncı received the UN Secretary Generals Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide.

In his statement to the press after his meeting with President Akıncı, Eide stated that at the intensified negotiations at the beginning of November progress was achieved on some issues. Noting that the meeting with President Akıncı was positive, Eide stated that they will hold the 6th meeting in November and there will be more meetings in December and they will decide how to proceed with their next meetings.

Stating that the intensified talks simplified the approach to the issues under the headings in the negotiations, Eide said, “We have progress in some issues and we have seen how we should be organized in some issues.”

Indicating that it is not appropriate to make an explanation on the concrete developments, because it is the leaders’ responsibility, Eide said, “Tomorrow (25th November) there will be a statement, and also this statement will be discussed at tomorrow’s (25th November) meeting.

Eide also stated: “We are also discussing how to make the most of international support, because any settlement will also have some international dimensions and UN dimensions to them.”
