UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide had a meeting with President Mustafa Akıncı yesterday at the Office of the President at 10:00, within the framework of the negotiations maintained to reach a settlement for the Cyprus problem.

During the meeting, they re-evaluated some issues which they want to solve in the following weeks.

In his statement following the meeting, Eide said that intensifying the meetings will be fruitful for the process that’s why he conveyed this to both leaders.

The meeting was held with the attendance of Turkish Cypriot Negotiator Özdil Nami, Presidential Spokesperson Barış Burcu, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Erhan Erçin and UN Secretary General’s Special Representative in Cyprus Lisa Buttenheim.

Furthermore, Eide said that as well as meetings with the leaders and the negotiating team together, separate meetings are also very fruitful for the negotiation process.

Adding that some compromised issues have been also discussed at the meeting, Eide said this is so encouraging and he will wait in the following weeks for the continuation of the good developments.
