Ertuğruloğlu: “We have been struggling with Greek Cypriot’s disinformation since 1960s”
Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu spoke to NTV, participated in the TRT Documentary Days and participated in podcasting as part of the 4th International Strategic Communication Summit 24 (Stratcom Summit’24), organized by the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye in İstanbul.
In his interview with the NTV, Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu said that the UK is the country that has committed the greatest injustice against the Turkish Cypriot people from the very begining. He pointed out that despite being one of the guarantor countries on the island, the UK has never fulfilled its responsibilities. Ertuğruloğlu also noted that it was Britain that paved the way for the recognition of the Greek Cypriots as the Republic of Cyprus by dismantling the partnership.
Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu also evaluated the fact that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer decision not to visit the TRNC during his visit to the Greek Cypriot Administration after 53 years, stating that this approach casts a shadow on the UK’s position as a guarantor country.
Regarding the United States deployment to South Cyprus, the lifting of the arms embargo, and the provision of training to the Greek Cypriot National Guard Army, Ertuğruloğlu expressed hope that South Cyprus would not misuse the American support and engage in provocative actions.
Ertuğruloğlu underlined that Türkiye is the key factor in maintaining the peace on the island.
