European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu will visit Cyprus on 15-16 October.

Commissioner Cretu is expecting to meet with President Mustafa Akıncı and civil society representatives from the Turkish Cypriot community. The Commissioner will visit Bedesten (St. Nicholas Church), which was renovated by the EU’s financial aid program for the Turkish Cypriot community, and the Bandabuliya with Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality Mayor Mehmet Harmancı.

In a statement ahead of the visit, Commissioner Cretu said that the aim of her visit is to identify what could be provided by the “Cohesion Policy” to the Republic of Cyprus in the field of growth and employment.

Cretu said: “As a Commissioner for Regional Policy my duty is to support the economic development of the Turkish Cypriot community and to promote contacts and dialogue.”
