Foreign Minister Özdil Nami had a meeting with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Füle at Berlaymont Building on Friday (7.02.2014). Füle attended the meeting with a crowded delegation and the joint statement and the latest stage reached in the Cyprus issue were discussed during the meeting.
The positive news from Cyprus regarding the joint statement had very good reflections and Füle stressed that the EU’s contributions will continue to increase. Füle also pointed out that the President of the European Commission Jose Manule Barosso also supported the two leaders for launching the negotiations.
Moreover views were exchanged with regard to the Turkish side’s EU harmonization process and it has been stated that the EU’s contributions would increase in case the negotiations progress.
Foreign Minister Nami also had a fruitful meeting with Executive Secretary General of the European External Action Service Pierre Vimont. Vimont got information about the joint statement process and emphasized that the news coming from the island were pleasing. Vimont underlined that they would give full support the process to be launched.
