The appointment of Diplomat Kethleen Ann Doherty who is selected by the President Barack Obama for the vacancy of US new ambassador to South Cyprus was hazarded as she did not mentioned ‘invasion’ when replying the question of Greek Cypriot origin New Jersey senator Robert Menendez in the interview held at the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee. According to the news of Greek Cypriot daily Simerini, a reliable source in Washington is of opinion that the appointment of Doherty as the US ambassador to South Cyprus will have difficulty due to not giving a satisfactory answer to the question related to the ‘Turkish invasion and occupation in Cyprus’ asked by Menendez. As required by the regulation of US Senate, a Senate member can indefinitely freeze an appointment made by US President.

It was stated that Doherty avoided answering the question as ‘Can I have the guaranty that in the future you will never say that there is no invasion in Cyprus’ asked by Menendez.
