President of Citizens’ Alliance, Yiorgos Lillikas, said ‘the probable liquidation of the Republic of Cyprus or its transformation into a Greek Cypriot constituting state in order to create a new partnership country would be a fatal mistake with unrecoverable effects’.
According to the Greek Cypriot daily FIleleftheros, Lilikas, underlining that the continuation of the so-called Republic of Cyprus must be a principle of negotiation for Greek Cypriots, emphasized that ‘such a vital topic cannot be regulated by ‘constructive uncertainty’, because there is not a court or an international organization that can interpret uncertainties. Therefore, the most powerful imposes his interpretation de facto.’
Lillikas emphasized: ‘In the case of the liquidation of the Republic of Cyprus or its transformation into a Greek Cypriot constituting state, the international recognition will be accorded to the new country, which will be considered as the successor of the Republic of Cyprus. The new country will substitute the Republic of Cyprus for its position in the EU, the UN, and other international organizations, and will take over the property and its financial responsibility, like Yugoslavia did.’
