Secretary General of AKEL Andros Kiprianu said “I cannot say that we have being working coherently for 41 years in order to achieve bi-zonal and bi-communal federation” and emphasized that there were some leaders who mentioned about bi-zonal and bi-communal federation but had different targets.

Greek Cypriot daily Alithia noted that Kiprianu has reminded that some people in South Cyprus stated : “we have not succeeded to solve the Cyprus problem on the ground of bi-zonal and bi-communal federation, so we should demand different things” and asked “If we change our attitude towards bi-zonal and bi-communal federation, what are we going to choose” and continued:
“First of all, I do not agree that we have been working coherently for 41 years in order to achieve bi-zonal and bi-communal federation. However, there were some leaders who mentioned about bi-zonal and bi-communal federation but had different targets”.
