Minister Nami meets with Lord Sharkey and Baroness Ece
Within the framework of his London contacts, Foreign Minister Özdil Nami met today with Lord Sharkey, Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the UK Parliament, and Baroness Meral Ece, Vice-Chair of the Group. Nami briefed Sharkey and Ece regarding the latest stage reached in the Cyprus negotiation process.
At the meeting, Foreign Minister Nami underlined his objective to learn the views of the UK Government, as one of the parties relevant to the issue, regarding the current stalemate reached at the negotiations and how it could be overcome, as well as to relay the views and proposals of the Turkish Cypriot side in this regard.
Minister Nami added that the Greek Cypriot side’s refusal to accept the convergences previously reached between the two sides is incomprehensible, has resulted in the loss of time, and has only served to impede the process rather than contribute to it.
Nami stated that the Turkish Cypriot side remains committed to reaching a solution and that its efforts towards this end will continue. Minister Nami added that he will continue to emphasize this commitment throughout all of his international contacts.
Underlining the importance of their cooperation and support, Minister Nami expressed his gratitude to Lord Sharkey and Baroness Ece, as well as other MPs at the UK Parliament, for their efforts towards reaching a solution to the Cyprus problem.
