Nuland: “US will continue to support the process”
The US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland stated that the US will continue to support the ongoing negotiations for a settlement in the island.
President Mustafa Akıncı received the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland who is in the island for a two-day visit, and the US Cyprus Embassy Charge d’Affaires Pamela Tremont.
Nuland made a brief statement to the press following the meeting and said that she had a productive meeting with President Akıncı. Nuland indicated that they are hopeful about the ongoing negotiations and they have a belief that the two leaders will take brave decisions towards achieving a solution.
Stating that they had a very good strategic evaluation with President Mustafa Akıncı, Nuland indicated that the possible solution in the island is not only important for the people in the island, but also important for the region that needs stability, reconciliation and a positive example of two communities living well together.
Furthermore, Nuland said: “US will continue to support this process and the Leaders as they take difficult steps in this path. But we want this to be a Cypriot owned process.”
