South Cyprus House President Yiannakis Omirou has said that explanations given from the US, as regards the presence of Turkish army officers, in uniform, in a reception hosted, in North Cyprus by the US Ambassador to South Cyprus, are not satisfying at all.
In a written statement, Omirou noted that a press release issued by the US embassy saying that “the US policy on Cyprus has not changed”, refrains from giving a response on the substance of the issue. He noted that what has been denounced is the Embassy`s action to extend an invitation to the Turkish army officers as well as their presence, in uniform, at the reception. He noted that the US embassy and the US administration continue to remain exposed for this “serious diplomatic slip.” “They had to apologize straight out. They did not do so. And they remain exposed,” he concluded.
