The reopening of the Othello Castle has long been a priority in the work of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage. Structural consolidations and conservation works were implemented with cooperation of the United Nations Development Programme Partnership for the Future and the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage. The project cost slightly over one million euros, fully funded by the European Union. The opening ceremony of the castle was held last night.

Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu, the Minister of Interior Affairs Teberrüken Uluçay, Gazimağusa Mayor İsmail Arter and many other senior officials and many guests from South Cyprus attended the opening ceremony.

Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot members of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, representatives of the European Union and United Nations made speeches during the ceremony.

Speakers Ali Tuncay and Takis Hadjdemetriou gave information about the history of the Othello castle and the technical committee. Furthermore, Cihan Sultanoğlu and Normunds Popens spoke about works of UNDP and EU
