Özyiğit: “Our basic aim is to reunite the island”
The leader of the Communal Democracy Party (TDP) Cemal Özyiğit emphasized that the division of the island is for no one’s benefit and the basic aim and struggle is to reunite the island. Speaking after a meeting with the Greek Cypriot AKEL party General Secretary Andros Kyprianu yesterday Özyiğit stated that an early, fair and permanent solution will be for the benefit of all Cypriots.
Özyiğit said: “We hope the negotiation process will result in a solution. The parameters of a solution are mentioned in the joint statement of February 11 which indicates that the solution will be based on a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with single sovereignty, single identity, and single international citizenship.
Following the meeting, the two parties announced that they had discussed the Cyprus issue as well as the two party bi-communal event that they are planning. It was agreed that the two parties will meet again on the 21st of September.
