Within the framework of UN’s 70th General Council meetings in New York, President Akinci met with the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and the President of the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu.

In his speech during the meeting with Hisarcıklıoğlu, President Akıncı stressed that they have been working to bring peace and prosperity to both sides of the island, and pointed out the importance of the economy.

President Akinci’s meeting with Turkish PM Davutoglu has been postponed until today.

Akinci will meet with the EU Commission Representative Frederica Moghereni and Swedish Foreign Minister Wallstrom today.

Furthermore, within the framework of his contacts, President Akıncı will meet with OIC Secretary General Iyad Medeni, New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully, Foreign Minister of Sultanate of Oman Yusuf Bin Alawi Bin Abbas and the Secretary of State John Kerry. President Akıncı will meet with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon on Friday 2 October.

Turkish Cypriot negotiator Özdil Nami who is accompanying President Akıncı during his contacts in New York is also having separate contacts. Nami will also meet with the Deputy Representatives of the UN Security Council.
