We have been following closely the escalating tensions and related developments in Syria and its surrounding areas.
As the TRNC, we condemn any attacks – notably chemical weapon attacks targeting civilians – aimed to harm and we emphasize the importance that such attacks should not go unpunished in order to prevent any further recurrences.
In this regard we hope the missile strikes carried out this morning against certain targets in Syria are concluded without creating further regional tension and armed conflicts.
We hope that tensions in our surrounding region end soon and that the safety of civilian life and property is not further endangered.
As of yesterday, together with the Security Forces Commander and the Peace Forces Commander, we have been reviewing from a security perspective, the latest developments around the island of Cyprus and the surrounding area.
In cooperation with the Turkish Naval Forces, we have been closely following regional developments. The TRNC is not facing any security threats either in its territorial waters or at its coasts.
