The Russian Foreign Minister’s proposal suggesting “Let’s meet in the buffer zone”, instead of visiting President Mustafa Akıncı at the Presidential Palace, was rejected by Akıncı.

According to the news of Turkish Cypriot daily Kıbrıs Postası newspaper, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova explained that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Cyprus is expected to be held between the dates 1-2 December.

According to the statement of Russian News Agency Tass, the proposal has been made, considering the two sides’ sensitivity, however, Akıncı has rejected this proposal.

On the other hand, according to another source close to the Presidency, the interest of a country which is very important and a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council such as Russia to the solution of the Cyprus problem, is very pleasing however they expect Russia to show sensitivity to the issue of equality.
