The CTP leader Mehmet Ali Talat stated that a solution of the Cyprus issue was of vital importance to the Turkish Cypriot people and added that if the Turkish Cypriots say “No” they will be pushed into a deeper isolation.
Underlining that “No” votes of the Turkish Cypriots are not same as “No” votes of the Greek Cypriots, Talat said that Turkish Cypriots are out of international law and none of the countries except Turkey recognize the TRNC.
Talat said that because of the elections in South Cyprus in May 2016 a natural timetable has been formed however if a solution was not reached until that time, everything will be more difficult. Adding that the most difficult issue on the agenda is the one of “property”, Talat said that an independent property commission composed of an equal number of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots will be established and the commission will evaluate the issues according to criteria.
Responding to a question on federal laws, Talat said a new constitution will be formed and the property regime will be organized accordingly. He added that all title deeds given by the TRNC will be valid and taken into consideration under the new arrangement.
