Özdil Nami
Özdil Nami was born in London on 23 May 1967. He graduated from the Boğaziçi University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department of Business in 1988. He completed his masters degree at the University of California, Berkeley Finance Faculty in 1991.
He started to work at Erdil & Sons Ltd. as a director in 1993. From 1993 to 1997 he gave lectures at Eastern Mediterranean University, Near East University and European University of Lefke. Between the years of 1997 and 2000 he served as Political Advisor at the TRNC Presidency Office; 2000-2001 as Councillor at the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and 2001-2003 as the Chairman of Cyprus Turkish Businessmen Association. He has given presentations at many conferences and seminars on the Cyprus issue and the TRNC economy. In January 2005, he was elected as the representative of the Turkish Cypriot Community at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). In March 2005, he was appointed as an observer member at the Socialist Group in the European Parliament.
At the general elections held on 14 December 2003 and at the early general elections held on 20 February 2005 and 19 April 2009, he was elected as a Republican Turkish Party – United Forces Member of Parliament for Nicosia. Between the years of 2008 and 2010, he served as the TRNC President’s Special Representative for the Cyprus negotiations. At the early general elections held on 28 July 2013, he was elected as a CTP-BG MP for Nicosia.
He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1 September 2013 – 12 May 2015.
He speaks English and German. He is married and has one child.
