US Ambassador Koenig is ‘persona non grata’

US Ambassador to South Cyprus John Koenig has become ‘persona non grata’ in the Greek Cypriot side due to his tweet that asked for a comment on Greek Leader Nikos Anastasiadis’ Moscow visit coinciding with the murder of the opponent politician Borris Nemtsov.

All of the Greek Cypriot policy makers mainly the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades and Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church Hrisostomos II. made sharp statements about US Ambassador to South Cyprus Koenig.

Anastasiades on Monday called Koenig’s tweet “exceedingly undiplomatic,” saying that any diplomat who creates “icy” bilateral relations does not serve neither this country nor another.”

The Greek Cypriot daily Fileleftheros noted under the headline ‘Tweets of Koenig caused him to be persona non grata’ that the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anasatasiades will not demand from US government to recall Koenig but he has no intention to meet with Koenig anymore.
