The recent remarks made by Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, claiming that there exists a so‑called ‘window of opportunity’ on the island, are entirely detached from reality. They amount to nothing more than a baseless propaganda effort, aimed at misleading the international community.
Stance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) remains clear and unwavering. The Greek Cypriot side continues to uphold its archaic mentality that refuses to recognize the Turkish Cypriot people as equal partners and persists in asserting the unfounded claim of being the sole authority over the island.
The model that has been tried for more than half a century and has collapsed due to Greek Cypriot side’s intransigent stance, maximalist demands and persistent disregard for the inherent rights of the Turkish Cypriot people, is now entirely exhausted. Expecting different outcomes from the same exercises is nothing but a waste of time.
In line with the call made by the UN Secretary‑General to both sides to come up with new ideas, the TRNC has conveyed to all relevant parties that any possible agreement on the island can only be achieved through the recognition of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the TRNC. A new process will only be possible once this reality is acknowledged.
An agreement between the two sides can only be achieved upon the existence of two independent and sovereign states coexisting side by side, and upon the recognition and acceptance of this fundamental reality.
Artificially imposed time constraints or attempts to establish a timetable, as suggested by the Greek Cypriot leader in connection with the Secretary‑General’s term of office, carry no significance for the Turkish Cypriot side. As all parties are well aware, there is currently no ground upon which negotiations can commence. The attempts by the Greek Cypriot Administration to mislead the international community into believing that talks are about to begin are entirely detached from reality.
Moreover, the international community must urgently, and without delay, should take concrete steps to end the unjust and unlawful isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people for more than 60 years, in light of the realities on the ground.
With the steadfast support of Motherland Türkiye, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus remains resolute in its commitment to foster a fair, lasting and sustainable framework of cooperation both on the island and in the region.
