Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu met with the Secretary-General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Asad M. Khan, on September 26 in New York on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

During the meeting, Minister Ertuğruloğlu expressed his appreciation for Secretary-General Khan’s contributions to the work of the ECO and to the enhancement of economic cooperation among its member states.

Highlighting that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus actively participates as an observer state in meetings and events organized under the umbrella of the ECO and has previously hosted various ECO events, Minister Ertuğruloğlu stated that the TRNC stands ready to host a joint ECO event in cooperation with the Republic of Türkiye in the future.

Ertuğruloğlu further emphasized that the TRNC attaches great importance to strenghtening cooperation with the ECO Secretariat and its member states across various fields, alongside economic and commercial relations.

Minister Ertuğruloğlu also briefed Secretary- Genral Khan extensively on the Cyprus issue, stressing that the unjust isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people for years must be lifted. He underlined the vital importance of the ECO’s support and of further deepening cooperation with the organization in this regard.
