The opinion issued by the European Parliament’s Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality regarding the 2027 EU budget, in which it recommends allocating resources for the so‑called memorial that the Greek Cypriot administration plans to construct with the aim of defaming the Heroic Turkish Armed Forces, is condemned in the strongest possible terms and this unethical attempt aiming to distort historical realities is categorically rejected.

The Greek Cypriot administration’s call to the European Commission, through the EU’s General Budget for the Financial Year 2027, in this regard constitutes a baseless accusation and smear campaign entirely aimed at distorting historical facts.

This approach, which attempts to conceal the inhumane acts committed by Greek Cypriot paramilitary groups and the terrorist organization EOKA against the Turkish Cypriot People between 1963 and 1974 — including ethnic cleansing and systematic attacks against civilians— represents yet another manifestation of the Greek Cypriot administration’s unilateral and non-constructive stance on the Cyprus issue.

The political initiative that seeks to overshadow the legitimate intervention carried out by the Heroic Turkish Armed Forces through the 1974 Peace Operation, which was undertaken to save the Turkish Cypriot People from annihilation and to establish peace and security across the island, is regarded as lacking any legitimacy by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and is deemed null and void.

We call upon the European Parliament and the relevant EU institutions to refrain from providing ground for such manipulative propaganda by the Greek Cypriot‑Greek duo, and instead, to adopt a fair, impartial, and lawful stance based on the existing realities on the island and the presence of two distinct peoples, taking into account the sovereign equality and equal international status of the TRNC.
