Regarding the violation of TRNC airspace by French warplanes
French warplanes, which were stationed in Paphos within the scope of the Defense Cooperation Agreement signed between the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus and France in 2017, have violated our country’s airspace and carried out a low-altitude flight in the Lefke region on 20 December 20 at the cost of endangering human life. We strongly condemn this violation by France, which has caused great trepidation among our people.
For a long time, the Greek Cypriot side has been signing bilateral military agreements under the false pretense that there is a “security threat” on the island.
We would like to emphasize that we will never allow this support and military cooperation afforded to the Greek Cypriot administration under the guise of strategic partnership to threaten the tranquility and security of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Once again, we call on all relevant parties, particularly France, who encourage the Greek Cypriot side in its military endeavors to immediately cease any activities that would risk regional security and to, instead, act with common sense.
