Regarding the military cooperation and armament activities of the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus.
The Greek Cypriot administration of Southern Cyprus has recently intensified its military activities, bolstered by “strategic partnerships” with support from powers like the United States. We have repeatedly emphasized that the support extended by the US to the Greek Cypriot administration, under the pretext of a strategic partnership, alongside military cooperation with countries like Israel and France, threatens to disrupt the fragile balances in the region.
In fact, recent media reports have indicated that the Greek Cypriot administration of Southern Cyprus is trying to integrate Israel’s air defence system into its own defence structure and is seeking to join NATO.
The Greek Cypriot side, which was unilaterally and illegally admitted to the EU before an agreement was reached on the Cyprus issue, seems to have forgotten that the decision to expand NATO requires unanimous approval. This oversight has likely encouraged their consideration of becoming a NATO member. It is clear from which forces the Greek Cypriot side took this courage.
As equal owners of the island, we will persist in our efforts to oppose attempts to transform Southern Cyprus into a military base in line with the interests of specific powers. There is a strong likelihood that the Greek Cypriot side’s escalated military activities, justified by an alleged “security threat” will lead to disaster for the entire island in the future.
Therefore, we once again urge all relevant parties to act with reason and call on international actors to avoid encouraging the Greek Cypriot side.
