Making evaluations about the Cyprus issue, Beşparmak Think Tank Group indicated that the EU institutions and officials should realise the political equality of both sides in the EU not only so-called but also in practice and should consider both sides accordingly.
In the statement it was expressed that “the Greek Cypriot side take advantage of so-called EU membership status on behalf of the whole Island and tries to make meaningless the agreed solution parameters under the European solution. The EU and the UN officials also provide opportunities in this regard and this situation is disquieting.”
In the statement it was also stated that pushing back the requirements of political equality and bi-zonality and highlighting principles that render meaningless the parameters of the European Union will cause danger for a settlement in Cyprus and may also cause wasting the existing negotiation process which is described as the last chance.
